I thought I'd share a piece of treasure on search engine optimization which entailed asking 500 people, ages 25-60, about search intent.

If you're like me, you receive tens of newsletters in your inbox daily. I had a few minutes before a meeting, and discovered this tidbit of marketing industry news. It's articles like this that I crave from every newsletter I subscribe to.

    Key Findings From Recent Survey

    • Ranking #1 isn’t everything. While ranking higher is better, many surveyed said they looked at more than 3 search results before clicking.
    • Meta descriptions continue to be a crucial SEO element. When asked which factor has the most significant impact on their decision to click a result, 62.9% responded it was the description.
    • Most searchers are satisfied with the search results returned by search engines. 72% of respondents said that the search engine was mostly accurate at matching their queries with search results.
    • Written content still reigns supreme. If you're struggling to decide if you should branch into video, 55% of people prefer to see written content in the search results over video.
